“D-DAY” Vinyl by AgustD Debuts at #2 on Billboard’s Top Selling Vinyl Albums Chart This Week!

The world of K-pop continues to make waves in the global music industry, and once again, BTS’ Suga, also known by his alter ego Agust D, has secured a significant achievement. This week, the vinyl edition of Agust D’s “D-DAY” made an impressive debut at #2 on Billboard’s Top Selling Vinyl Albums chart. Released under Agust D, Suga’s solo project, D-DAY has been a highlight of 2023, showcasing his incredible versatility, both as a rapper and producer. It ties as the HIGHEST Charting Vinyl Album by an Asian Soloist on the chart in HISTORY. This achievement not only underscores Suga’s individual influence within BTS but also demonstrates the enduring power of vinyl in today’s streaming-dominated music industry. With BTS being a dominant force in music worldwide, Suga’s solo ventures are proving that even outside the group’s collaborative efforts, each member has the star power to stand tall on their own.

“D-Day” by AgustD now joins “Indigo” by “RM” & “FACE” by Jimin as the Highest Charting Vinyl Album of ALL-TIME by Korean/K-Pop Soloist on Billboard’s Top Selling Vinyl Albums Chart History.

SUGA, born Min Yoongi, first introduced his alter ego, Agust D, in 2016 through a self-titled mixtape, establishing a separate identity from his role in BTS. With his Agust D persona, he explores darker, more personal themes, focusing on introspection, mental health struggles, and his journey as an artist. The follow-up mixtape, D-2, released in 2020, solidified Agust D as one of the most prominent solo figures in K-pop, with a unique voice and style that resonates globally. When SUGA released D-DAY earlier this year, fans were once again treated to his musical genius. The album tackles a variety of genres, from hard-hitting rap to more introspective tracks, with Suga taking on the role of both performer and producer. The vinyl release of D-DAY has since become a sought-after item, capitalizing on the resurgence of vinyl as a format for music collectors.

According to Billboard, the sales of the D-DAY vinyl propelled it to #2 on the Top Selling Vinyl Albums chart, an impressive feat considering the album was up against strong competition. Vinyl records have become increasingly popular in recent years, with many fans preferring the tactile experience of physical media over digital downloads or streaming. SUGA’s D-DAY vinyl success shows just how much BTS ARMY and other music lovers value this format, especially when it comes to limited-edition releases.

SUGA’s success with D-DAY reflects not only the strength of his fanbase but also the universal appeal of his music. His ability to weave complex narratives and emotions into his lyrics has always been a hallmark of his work with BTS, and he carries that same storytelling prowess into his solo endeavors. Songs like “Haegeum” and “AMYGDALA” offer deep reflections on his personal experiences, blending traditional Korean instrumentation with modern production techniques. The result is a sound that feels both globally relevant and uniquely rooted in his heritage.

This vinyl debut at #2 marks another milestone in SUGA’s already illustrious career. It’s important to note that this success isn’t limited to one geographical area. Agust D’s music, much like BTS’ work, transcends cultural boundaries, resonating with fans from all walks of life. His candid discussions of mental health, fame, and identity connect with listeners on a deep level, proving that K-pop has the power to address important topics while still being sonically innovative.

The rise of vinyl sales has been a surprising phenomenon in recent years. While digital streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube dominate the music industry, vinyl records have made a massive comeback. This revival is largely due to their collectible nature and the nostalgia they invoke, as well as the superior sound quality many audiophiles associate with vinyl. Artists like Suga, who maintain a global fanbase, have tapped into this trend by releasing limited-edition vinyl versions of their albums, often including special artwork and packaging that make the physical product a desirable keepsake.

For fans of SUGA and Agust D, the D-DAY vinyl is more than just an album—it’s a piece of history. The attention to detail in the packaging, combined with the emotional weight of the music, makes it a must-have for collectors. It’s also a way for fans to show their support for SUGA’s solo work, giving them a tangible connection to an album that has deeply impacted their lives.

BTS has already shown their ability to impact charts in ways few artists can, and this extends to physical formats like vinyl. Over the past few years, BTS’ vinyl releases, whether as a group or as solo artists, have consistently performed well on global charts. Their fans, known collectively as ARMY, are incredibly dedicated and often go above and beyond to support their idols, whether that means streaming their songs on loop or purchasing every available version of an album. SUGA’s D-DAY vinyl debut at #2 further solidifies BTS’ influence in the vinyl market, with fans clearly eager to own a piece of music history. This achievement also speaks to the evolving nature of the music industry, where physical sales still hold weight despite the dominance of streaming. Vinyl sales in particular offer artists a way to connect more intimately with their audience, creating a sense of exclusivity and nostalgia that digital formats simply can’t replicate.

SUGA’s success as Agust D continues to grow, and his debut at #2 on the Billboard Top Selling Vinyl Albums chart is a clear sign that his influence as a solo artist is only getting stronger. While Suga has always been an integral part of BTS, his solo projects allow him to explore themes and sounds that may not always align with the group’s more polished, mainstream offerings. His work as Agust D is often rawer, more personal, and experimental, giving fans a glimpse into a different side of the artist they’ve come to know and love.

The success of D-DAY opens up many possibilities for SUGA’s future as a solo artist. Whether it’s through future mixtapes, albums, or even international solo tours, it’s clear that Suga has the potential to carve out a significant place for himself in the global music landscape. His unique sound and authentic approach to his artistry resonate deeply with fans, ensuring that whatever he releases next will be met with eager anticipation.

As expected, ARMY has been quick to celebrate SUGA’s achievement on social media. Fans from around the world have taken to platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok to share their excitement about the vinyl release and its success on the charts. Hashtags like #AgustD_DDAYVinyl and #SugaVinylDebut have trended globally, with fans praising SUGA for his artistry and the emotional depth of his music.

Many fans have shared photos of their own D-DAY vinyl records, proudly showing off their collections and expressing their gratitude for the impact Suga’s music has had on their lives. Others have taken the opportunity to reflect on how far SUGA has come, from his early days as a struggling underground rapper to becoming a global superstar and respected producer. For ARMY, this moment is not just about celebrating Suga’s chart success but also acknowledging his personal growth and the hard work that has brought him to this point.

In typical SUGA fashion, the rapper and producer has remained humble about the success of D-DAY. In recent interviews, SUGA has expressed gratitude to his fans for their dedicated support, noting that he creates music not just for himself but for those who find solace and inspiration in his words. His humility and dedication to his craft are part of what endears him to so many fans worldwide. Despite his modesty, there’s no denying the impact SUGA has had on the music industry, both as a member of BTS and as a solo artist. His ability to push boundaries, experiment with different sounds, and stay true to his artistic vision has made him one of the most respected figures in K-pop and beyond.

The debut of Agust D’s D-DAY vinyl at #2 on the Billboard Top Selling Vinyl Albums chart is proof to SUGA’s growing influence as a solo artist. This achievement not only highlights the continued resurgence of vinyl as a preferred format for music lovers but also underscores SUGA’s ability to connect with fans on a deeply personal level through his music. As SUGA continues to evolve as an artist, both within BTS and as Agust D, it’s clear that his journey is far from over.

With D-DAY, Suga has once again proven that he’s a force to be reckoned with in the global music industry. His unique blend of introspection, raw emotion, and innovative production continues to captivate audiences, and fans are eager to see where his solo career will take him next. For now, ARMY can celebrate this incredible achievement, knowing that there’s much more to come from the artist they’ve supported every step of the way.

  • That Industry Trying to ‘find’ the ‘Next BTS’ Should also Try to find the ‘Next ARMY’ Because ARMY is BTS & BTS is ARMY

That Industry Trying to ‘find’ the ‘Next BTS’ Should also Try to find the ‘Next ARMY’ Because ARMY is BTS & BTS is ARMY

6 out of the seven members of BTS are still serving in the military. Jin was the first member to enlist, and he was recently discharged on 12th June. When BTS announced that they would be taking a break, there were already plans to try and find the next BTS. Billboard even collaborated with some south Korean organizations to form a K-pop focused Billboard chart. BTS still topped that and so they awarded second place as well. As soon as BTS announced that they will be enlisting, the industry was abuzz with trying to replace them or form a new ‘BTS’ etc. The point that the industry does not seem to want to accept is that they cannot duplicate something that was born out of passion and true love for music. Even BTD themselves did not believe that they would reach this level of success. Their CEO Bang Si Hyuk even said when asked about the formula of BTS’ success said that even they do not know how BTS came to be.

In one of their interviews, when asked what about there being the next BTS with their juniors coming in said that “There is no next BTS. Even they did not try to be like some other group, they worked towards being BTS” Artists being compared to BTS or being pushed to become BTS will eventually feel pressured and even discouraged as each artist is unique and should be treated as such. This post was brought about courtesy of a comment that was on Twitter regarding an article that said they would try and find the next BTS since the music industry would grow to around 3 trillion dollars in 2027.

    She pointed out,

“I love 😒how the media in Korea is STILL hell-bent on finding “the next BTS.” BTS has been on hiatus for the last two years. So, when is this “next” group going to come along? Because they have one more year left before the Kings of the Korean Music Industry (yes, the whole industry) return. Even other musical genres are gaining international attention ONLY because BTS exists, and Jin has already returned to their throne room. One home, 6 more to go! I still don’t see another group making the same or even comparable waves and crossing international mainstream borders to become household names like BTS has. A major factor in BTS’s success is their genuine love for all things music, combined with the bonus of being one-in-a-billion musical geniuses. Another major success-defining factor for whoever “the next BTS” might be is whether they have a “next ARMY.” ARMY already belongs to BTS. BTS and ARMY together pushed boundaries, broke down doors, walked into places that previously didn’t welcome them, and made a place for themselves without waiting for permission. So again, to the media players in Korea, do you have what it takes to take on BTS and their ARMY? I can tell you that taking on the might of millions of dedicated, organized, and determined ARMY from all walks of life and every corner of the world almost guarantees you won’t like the outcome of this game you continue to play.”

Here are some of the responses on the post

    Sal68💜¹BTS is the next BTS.”

Jenarie¹ “I wish they would understand they can’t create it.  If they want artists with a chance to make a difference in the world they need to support the growth of the ones they have instead of throwing them away for the new shiny toy before they have a chance to mature into their full potential. There won’t be another BTS but there mightbe another something special if they stop trying to copy and give other artists a chance to be who they are. And if nothing else they should be smart enough not to try to create it NOW when BTS is coming back. The next decade is full.”

⟭⟬ 𝒷𝓉𝓈𝒶𝓇𝓂𝓎𝒿ℯ𝓃𝓃 “truth is, bts & army are like unicorns in the industry; even in marketing, psych, socio subjects, they’re one of those examples of ‘how-to.’ but in all honesty, their mediaplay & buying of followers or even their disingenuous & inorganic ways will never amount to amything.”

Min Kitty ¹¹ ⟭⟬ It’s fun, bc they realized they shot themselves in the foot by not at least offering exemption bc we saw the whole industry take a dive the moment our boys said bye. They tried to sway us away but totally forgot that ARMY & BTS are a package deal.”

Sumeria is in this Bangtan shit 4LIFE! “What’s so funny to me is wasn’t it last week they were CRYING about kpop globally dying once BTS went on hiatus?  And weren’t they cheering Jin’s return cause they were hoping that the return of BTS would bring back global fame to “kpop”?  Aren’t those the articles I read?”

Dorothy grimsley💥0T7💥 “I read this yesterday and had a extended laugh. Just like their will never BE another BTS, Their will never BE another Army. Never!! We are one of kind, dominate, have been, will always be.”

MinYoonKer “So tired of their BS.”

Maribel BTS ⟬⟭ message Aileen. “Is ridiculous how they want to create a group they can manipulate. This is what they want, power. I doubt they can do it bc BTS is one of a kind & ARMY is loyal. They don’t have what it takes to create another BTS. They will be #1 as long as they want. 😎💜”

itsjustme 💜 ot for lyf 7=1” This. Plus, bts grew organically. It took them time to nurture n grow d fandom n start winning major awards. They captured hearts n made emotional/spiritual connections thats y army is so invested in these 7 men. Stanning them is not just a phase for us, it’s a lifetime commitment”

Vic “I’m waiting for the day they finally realize or acknowledge that BTS and BTS-ARMY is once in a lifetime. They are lucky to have BTS (sometimes i feel they don’t even deserve with the way they constantly treat them) if BTS are from PH they’d crowned national pride already”

mama llama “The 7 could have taken an exemption, as they fit the exemption rules, however like all that they do, they chose to set the bar high for all else to follow. They chose to serve and we, though we miss them, we admire them for their choice. Be blessed gentlemen, you have earned it.”

Anacaona “The media and the KPOP industry still don’t understand that there won’t EVER be another BTS! As they’re one in a billion! They’d need to nurture the upcoming generation of idols in hopes that they’d come into their own and not discard them like a hot potato! But they don’t get it”

Karrie Stansfield 🤦‍♀️-what don’t they understand about organic …it takes time to form a solid bond between artist and group…. if there was going to be another BTS-we would have already seen the start of it…ARMY/BTS grew together 💜”

Britta 💜Muse 🏳️‍🌈💜 “They probably don’t realize that we already have baby baby armies wiggling their diapers to the music. How long do you want to try that? it is completely hopeless😊💜”

Indeego🇨🇦#MUSE#RPWP | Never Let Go💜 “It’s funny how they always have to bring BTS into the conversation in order to get some attention. They could have just used high calibre musical artist or something like that. What do ARMY do when the tannies don’t provide content? From what I’ve seen in my 7th year+” in this fandom We make our own! We organize our own activities and things using their previous content. Why? Because it’s genuinely GOOD content! I can watch the same video or clip 1000x and still be happy 😆”

⟬⟭⟭⟬BangTan’sNikki (Suga’s My Steamed Dumpling) “Frankly atp they are embarrassing themselves by continuing to mention it because why do they expect them to fall out of the sky? If it hasn’t even begun to happen it won’t. And why so hellbent on finding the next BTS? 😒”

🔎 “I get why they want to create the “next BTS” and “next Parasite” (the “next Squid Game” is already coming in season 2) because from a national pride aspect they want their entire music and entertainment industry to be validated and not just a one or two off. The challenge is by trying to crown a successor it creates the fantasy that someone else can rise to BTS’ level and they will compete with each other at the top of the global music market. That’s just not realistic. They would be so much better off if they stopped saying BTS’ name and just started talking about growing their entertainment industry. They won’t do that though, because as much as they desperately want to validate everyone, they also want to remind the world that BTS is also theirs. It seems contradictory, but while balancing South Korean competitiveness and world competitiveness, it makes sense to them. I believe it’s a massive misstep. The MCU is the hands down champion for comic book franchises, DC has had some success with a few movies here and there, but it lacks the consistency and creativity of the MCU so they are constantly retooling and trying to create something to fit. More times than not it comes out overproduced, ego driven, all style and no substance. Before the MCU took off, there were some very successful DC movies and trilogies, but nothing that created a universe, you could say the movies stayed local. Both can exist, both can be successful, but no one in their right mind would say that the upcoming DCEU is the next MCU. BTS is the MCU, the kpop industry is DCEU.”

S.Lee¹ ⟭⟬⟬⟭Youcan’t find the next BTS bc no one will go through EXACTLY what these 7 did. They won’t have the same struggles, character, work ethic, talent. They won’t have the same stories to share in their music or the same team behind them or the same fans. ARMYs, like BTS, are special.”

LisaYou explained it perfectly 👌. Also, they never intended to reach the heights they did, it was ARMY that brought them to that level, because we knew they were WORTHY of it! and they never stopped appreciating us. BTS/ARMY bond can not be duplicated. 💜”

Deborah Schneebeli “Add to incredible chemistry, charisma, talent, determination and loyalty – BTS magic. ARMY magic. Some things are unexplainable.”

PurpleHearts💜 “There can not be next BTS bcoz there cannot be next ARMY. There cannot be next ARMY bcoz there cannot be next BTS. Its a cycle that cannot be copied.”

Carman K “There is only 1 BTS. The music can’t create another group like BTS. They can try, but it won’t have the same effect. They need to find talents that work well w/ one another & give them the creativity to write their own music. They need to create something unique, but a long shot.”

MamaBatang “Also in their solo projects they have shown each of them have mastery over different genres. They are beyond kpop.”

lanarmyImagine if genuine musicians and artists in the industry who are trying to make it so hard by being themselves would get compared to BTS (or anyone) all the time. Saying ‘you are the next XZ’ is an insult to any Real Artist.”

Tanu 💜 “Well said if they really want “next BTS” they need to made “next ARMY” which is a major cause behind BTS but they seem to forget this simple fact instead they just trying to copy them nd pressurize the other groups”

Eunoia “Whether they have a next army. Army and bangtan together pushed the boundaries. The perfect answer they could ever receive. But they just don’t want to accept the facts.!!! Clowns”

forever rainWhy is Korea obsessed w/finding the next BTS? I think instead of focusing on finding the next BTS bc BTS are irreplaceable, they should focus on nurturing current & future idols to have similar morals, talent, love for creativity, freedom, etc. The focus should be improving the current or future idols to be held to the standards of BTS to create idols that are artists like BTS. There won’t be a next BTS, but I think there is room for improvement in the idol industry to help nurture idols to be artists. If they nurture these idols to be artists, to give them room for mistakes w/o persecution & immediate expulsion in life, foster healthy morals, give them freedom, etc i think then they can create idols to be artists. Also, stop abandoning idols once they aren’t youthful enough. I don’t like how the industry seems to discard them once they get past 25. It’s like they are selling youth by discarding idols once they hit a certain age that’s not considered youthful enough in the industry. Their value seems to decrease w/age. They’re treating idols like fast fashion & like they need to find the next trendy thing to sell instead of fostering growth. BTS is like a rare high-quality group that can’t be replicated while the other groups are replaceable when a newer younger trendy group comes along. The idol groups are styled in luxury & their mv are opulent, but they are like mannequins that can be easily replaced. I don’t think I conveyes my message well because I am tired. I hope i wrote it w/o being rude to others.”

BTS.Polaris⟭⟬I’ve always found the agencies over there to be either lazy or incompetent. It’s not like they don’t have the talented people working for them, they just repeatedly mishandle every opportunity. It’s mind boggling. They only have themselves to blame…but instead they hate on BTS.”

💜✨Jen – HUMAN🔸KIND. Be Both “You can’t create “the next ___” like it seems SK wants to do. There has to be honesty & connection that resonates with people that drives the loyalty & love and then the success is a by product. No one understands just copying isn’t the key if there’s no heart behind it”

💜 Mary ᴾʳᵒᵒᶠ Fr fr – like BTS are actual people with talent, sincerity and charisma AND lots of other amazing attributes. They wouldn’t be BTS without themembers. There is no such thing as the next BTS.”

Purple Heart Gurl ᴿᵖʷᵖI had a thought; this want to find the next BTS possibly comes from fear. BTS has a massive economic impact for the country yet once done w/ ms they aren’t duty bound anymore. The govt wants a next BTS that they can control so there’s stability in their economy.”

Sherry¹ 💜 ⟭⟬ ⒷⓉⓈ ⟭⟬ 💜 “So much this 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 It’s honestly embarrassing for everyone else always being compared to BTS .. they should just realize BTS are legends & legends don’t come every few years that’s what makes the legends. And what a great point about them also needing an ARMY and we’re already taken! They simply don’t understand the unique relationship between BTS/ARMY and I’ve never seen that before or since, so good luck — they’re gonna need it cuz it’s not happening. They’d all be better off just trying to nurture what they have and let them do their best and stop comparing. I imagine the entire industry is shaking in their boots because they’ve made 0 headway with this dream of theirs for 2 years & got nothing and in less than a year that window will be a closed vault .. which it always was they just didn’t realize it. The truth is there can never be another BTS because no one will EVER be in their position again because BTS paved the way and no one will have to climb the same mountain. And that’s not to say other artists aren’t great, I’m sure there are some, they’re just not BTS and never will be. Period. End of story.”

If BTS and their label do not know the formula that created BTS, then what are the chances that any individual or company would? When you follow BTS from the beginning you will know that there is genuinely and hard work in their psyche. They always live with gratitude and always credit ARMY (their fandom) with half their success. In an interview RM said that if he gets a trophy for success, he always gives ARMY 50% of their success, 5% percent shared among the members and 15% he gives to their label BIGHIT Music. All the members credit their passion and working hard to their fans. And it is true, ARMY raised BTS, they have always fought for BTS from the beginning. They put BTS on the world map especially in western countries that mostly do not look too well to foreign acts dominating in their market.

ARMY is made up of individuals from all walks of life, based on gender, age, religion, color, geography and even language.

ARMY is a well-organized entity that has proven that they are not only fans but individuals who come together for a common goal. They do not only buy and listen to BTS music, but they also work towards changing the world. They have spoken against discrimination, pointed out the wrongs that some people or organizations have thrown at BTS. They have organized charities, built hospitals, through charities, they have paid for school feels, medical treatment, donated food to both humans and animals, they have done many thighs to try to make the world better. This is because of the influence that BTS has had on them. ARMY is the biggest fandom in the world and if you are to ‘create’ the next BTS, then find a way to create the ‘next ARMY’ because those two are interlinked, one cannot exist without the other.
